PUPPY BEHAVIOR TRAINING

Congratulations on your new puppy! When the excitement dies down you'll probably realize that it's actually a lot of hard work managing a young puppy.... especially if they're a working breed.

Puppies who have been board & trained from a young age become much more manageable as adolescence and adults which means you get to spend more time doing all the fun things you want to do with your fur monster. Puppy behaviors that are fairly common that we can assist you with include:

Going potty in your home

Chewing furniture & fixtures

Play biting and nipping

Fearful of unfamiliar objects & places

Non-responsive to their name & commands

Easily dis-tractable & impulsive

Unfocused and pulling on leash

Separation anxiety

Here are a few puppies we've trained in the past.

BOARD & TRAINING for PUPPIES from $2,450

During their minimum 2 week stay with us, we will open a line of communication with your new puppy using scientifically proven methods (LIMA Principle) to help shape their behavior through positive reinforcement. We want your puppies to be eager to look to you for behavioral cues and listen to your commands when they feel unsure of their surroundings or overwhelmed by new and exciting distractions.

"LIMA describes a trainer or behavior consultant who uses the least intrusive, minimally aversive strategy out of a set of humane and effective tactics likely to succeed in achieving a training or behavior change objective."

We NEVER use shock collars, prong collars, "alpha dog" tactics or any other form of negative reinforcement to 'simulate' good behavior in your dog. These techniques would ultimately run the risk of causing behavioral issues in the future.

WHAT YOUR PUPPY WILL LEARN

In addition to the CORE Principles and the below behaviors and commands we will gladly address any additional behaviors raised with us prior to your puppies training commencing. Our 2 week+ Board & Train program will also prepare your puppy for the good canine citizen test and / or the emotional support dog certification should you want to go down that route.

HEEL

Your puppy will walk by you with the leash loose but short. If you speed up, slow down or change direction they will too without you pulling on the leash. If you stop, they will sit automatically. This a great way to ensure their focus is on you and nothing else.

STAY

This will reassure an anxious puppy that it's OK to stay put because you will be back soon or are watching over them.

RECALL

If they run towards a distraction they know it will be more rewarding to come back to you when their name is called.

LEAVE IT

This will take their focus off the distraction and onto to you. Then give another command to redirect them entirely.

DOOR CROSSING

Anxious and energetic puppies who try to run for an exit at every chance will benefit from this one. Your puppy will always look to you first before they can cross the threshold and will need the release command 'ALL DONE' before they are allowed out.

SPOT

Your dog will remain on their bed which will manage their anxiety while you are busy or when guests arrive.

SIT / DOWN

Your puppy will remain in these commands until released so that you can manage their focus and excitement in various situations.

CRATE

This will become a place for your puppy to feel safe when the level of stimuli or anxiety is too much for them to behave.
